About me

Hello, I’m Katherine Wildman, copywriter and creative strategist.

I specialise in working with highly-regulated industries, defining distinct B2B brand voices, and delivering copywriting training that changes how busy people write – for good.

I’m also an Associate Lecturer at Northumbria University, run copywriting training courses for Westminster Insight, and co-host a podcast with Innovate UK on the subject of Silent Designers,

About Haydn Grey

In 2012, I took the persuasive copywriting teachings of Andy Maslen, married them to an MA in Creative Writing, and founded my writing agency, Haydn Grey, the home of The Writing Desk.

The Writing Desk features people who have a fascinating take on the world. You’ll find poets, marketers, designers, and copywriters. It’s packed with powerful resources and insights you can apply to your own copywriting and marketing today.

Who I write for

I write for businesses of all shapes and sizes, from multinational corporations and critical industries to government agencies.

The clients I’m allowed to talk about include the NHS, the Market Research Society, Innovate UK, and Pearson. The clients I’m not allowed to talk about sit on a separate hard drive – hefty procurement forms and NDAs signed as standard.

“Katherine knows her stuff, and is an absolute joy to work with.
She’s a valued partner and specialist, and works with us as an extension of our core creative, digital and strategy teams. And that’s for projects and clients working with and in confidence in some very challenging sectors. This is actually a bittersweet recommendation for me, why? Because she’s great and we want to keep her all to ourselves.”

Copywriting services

I offer support at all stages of marketing and branding projects.

From the ‘white board, deep thinking, and idea generation’ stage of brand development through to putting the final flourishes to brand books and training teams in how to adopt a new tone of voice.

I can help if you need a safe pair of hands to take on an existing brief, or if you need to bounce ideas around before starting a new campaign.

“Katherine is unwaveringly passionate about delivering copy fit for purpose. She is dedicated to the subject, and the result is copy delivered to brief with little need for revision. It certainly helped deliver effective marketing materials and I have readily shared her contact details with colleagues without hesitation.”

AI and the future

AI is here. But it’s a blunt tool that needs a lot of hand-holding. It generates, rather than creates anything new, which means what it produces can lack meaning. Read between the lines and there’s often very little of substance you can grab hold of.

It’s why, when you’re developing the foundations of your business in words, you need someone to be in the room.

Someone who can ask the simple questions that reveal the big answers. Who can listen to what’s being said and make you go deeper. Someone who can offer challenges, question assumptions, and get to the very heart of what you offer—and why your customers should care.

It’s work that’s tiring, emotional—and rewarding. Because once it’s in place, everything else just flows.

The foundations for your success

LLMs can give you a useful starting point. But they’re not going to set your next campaign on fire or transform your business. That’s why, before you can start to scale with your AI tool of choice, you need to know what ‘good’ sounds and feels like for your business.

And it usually arrives at the end of a brand voice workshop.

It’s the moment when everyone in the room starts to smile and relax. When people pause for a beat to let the words settle. When the business is reflected back at everyone in the room.

It’s the moment when I know that you’re onto something great and things are about to get interesting.
